Student Project

Under the guidance of U.S. senior engineers, students work as teams (4 students in each team) to complete team projects with the following tasks:

Identify a real world problem and create a product idea with the U.S. senior engineers, and develop the product by following the global engineering process, with the following requirements:

  • Meet global market requirements described as functional & non-functional requirements;
  • Brainstorm for at least 50 ideas and choose the best one with analysis;
  • Demonstrate process iteration;
  • Demonstrate market competitive advantage;
  • Can be potentially manufactured;
  • Take engineering sustainability into design consideration;
  • Demonstrate global perspective.

Project Deliverables

Students are required to deliver the following milestone step by step by utilizing the global engineering process:

  • Problem statement
  • Global market requirements
  • Concept generation and selection
  • System design
  • Prototyping
  • Final Project showcase

Project Showcase

Project Showcase is an opportunity for teams to present projects and demonstrate leadership in front of broad audience. Project showcase will be one of the most important venue to evaluate student projects in this course. Therefore it is a very important activity for students. The Project Showcase guideline is as follows:

  • The project showcase will be held at the end of this semester in a conference room specified by the partnering university administrator.
  •  Each team will need to design a poster, print out the poster, and place it on an easel.
  • A team of senior engineers from U.S. will watch the showcase from video, while the university staff will watch the showcase locally.
