Student Project

Students will complete a term-long project that will allow students to apply what they have learned to a specific social, scientific, engineering, or policy challenge they are passionate about.

Design Thinking course consists of three different type of classes, each with different project. Students must choose one of the following classes:

A. General education
B. Machine Learning
C. Interactive Device

For the Type A (DT-GE) class, students will use Design Thinking as the mindset and design and prototype a solution they are passionate about.

For the Type B (DT-ML) class, students will use Design Thinking as the mindset and Machine Learning as an innovation tool to design and prototype a solution they are passionate about.

For the Type C (DT-ID) class, students will use Design Thinking as the mindset and Arduino as an innovation tool to design and prototype a solution they are passionate about.

A final presentation will be a key deliverable for this course. In each session, students will learn different tools and ways of thinking that advance project work on their design challenge and build toward the final presentation. Highlights of the presentation include:

  • Problem statement of the design challenge
  • Problem solving approach
  • Insights based on the design research conducted
  • Visualized concepts
  • A plan to make the solution concepts actionable and measurable
